He was off on his own Tour de France. He would camp on the banks of the canals and eat fromage and chocolat, savouring every minute.

Blackbird in Winter

He saw the first signs of spring and was wistful.

If only winter would be 3 1/2 weeks longer, he sighed.

Winter Raven

There were a million reasons to stay for the winter but still he hankered for the south with it’s warmth and sunshine. He left a quick note and was off, just like that, decision made. encaustic collage

The process:  layers of original vintage papers with topcoat of gesso; completed with images, both reverse transfer and collage; finished with found objects and archival varnish. This was my demo piece made during my summer collage workshop. carte-postales-isabelle-1200021

Alberta and May gossiping in the shade.

The picnic, tucked in the basket can wait awhile.

Halycon days, watching  the grand children

The found objects: antique glass bottle, small sea urchin skeleton, fish vertebra, quartz crystal, bit of broken shell and and old cigar box.

The ephemera: originals: registered mail sticker, torn bit of letter sent via clipper, ration stickers from World War II, vintage French envelope addressed to a Parisian doctor, antique manuscript from the 1800s and  reproductions of vintage map of the south of France, reproduction of a vintage photo of Beatrice Shilling aka Tilly.

The found objects: old cigar box, vintage anagram letters, old gages, antique pocket watch, old switch, vintage key, vintage castor wheel, vintage zinc letter 3, old door knob.
